Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. It wasn’t always this way. I used to be a breakfast-skipper and then craving every cookie in sight by 2 or 3pm. But there’s no way I would skip it now! …Especially when there are simply delicious and charming places like Nelson the Seagull in the Gastown area of Vancouver to indulge my nutritionista-healthy-foodie taste buds.

I actually ended up here because the server at Aphrodite’s cafe recommended it to me. When I walked in I realized I was in the hipster capital of Vancouver, evidenced by the beards at every table. I didn’t mind one bit, as it reminded me of some of my fave cafes in Toronto.

The open kitchen certainly added to the charm. There were two lovely ladies prepping food and I could tell this was a place I would like because it was obvious they cared a great deal about creating darn good eats.

See what I mean? Freshly baked bread ready to slather some jam on top.

As you can see from the menu, there are many delectable choices to fill your belly with joy. It was hard to pass up on the freshly baked bread, but the other options just looked so good. They even had almond milk – yippee!

I had the hearty and flavourful muesli with yogurt and honey. I’m almost embarrassed to say that I did not try their espresso because apparently word on the street says it’s the best in the city of Vancouver.  Instead, I opted for a jasmine loose leaf green tea. I will just have to go back next time I’m in Vancouver because they do almond milk lattes or cappuccinos.

And yes (as you can probably see), I did try the chocolate croissant, but I shared it with some good company. It was comparable if not (dare I say) better than Bonjour Brioche in Toronto!

The mason jar of water made me feel right at home. I have a thing for putting liquids such as smoothies and juices in mason jars, as you may have noticed.

Even the bathrooms were hipster!

So if you happen to be in Vancouver, then you must check out this great cafe not only for the people watching and the comfy atmosphere (we ended up staying well over two hours), but the food was simply delicious.

Nelson the Seagull is at 315 Carrall Street, Gastown, Vancouver BC.

Be joyous!

Loved ALL about your Vancouver trip. How do I submit for the contest? Love your Aunt Linda

  2. I was so happy to see this was your gastown breakfast choice! I live in gastown and love this spot. Their sourdough bread is out of this world. 🙂
